The Joy of Color

Meet my new socks.

These are the same socks I was knitting ten days ago. (Knitting Life in the Round) I just finished them Sunday, and I wore them yesterday to cheer me up on a cold, rainy day.

I'm addicted to color. For years, I have bought far too many clothes because I crave a lot of color in my wardrobe. The color that I put on each day is an expression of my mood and often an expression of my persona. Knitting socks has become my new way to incorporate color into my life. It's a lot cheaper than buying a cashmere sweater!

I'm really grateful that God created color. I'm not sure he really had to; we could have functioned perfectly well in a black and white world. But color adds beauty to our lives and emotion. It helps to differentiate things that otherwise look alike. To me, it's a demonstration that God cares about more than just utility. He longs to provide us with abundance.

So I praise him for the wonderful colors with which he has painted the world.

And my next pair of socks will be varied shades of pink.

Hi Ruth,
From my job with little children from all over whose inflections show they have not assimilated and still enjoy their cultural roots, from Africa to Latin America, may they have the spirit of their own colorfulness--
how to trust the diversity and the source of good that is in allowing our trust for that.
In contrast, as last night- i just had some guy rip me off when i got my brakes parts for him ( do not use craigslist as i bought them and he was to put them on my back brakes). He said he put them on, but then turned around and resold them to the store i purchased them. Things are getting ' resolved'. I dreamed all night of going through stop signs.. ikes,
Besides getting the brakes fixed right i dreamed, if i just got up thirty minutes earlier and received some of that trust when there seems not a color. Opening to proverbs one-- the place of safety, as by faith, where we can rejoice again.. proverbs spoke of 'the word to be a place of trusting' celebration too is hearing your stories..thanks for them.

I'm glad you've been visiting my blog!
I love your socks, especially because you knitted them yourself. I've always liked colorful and patterned socks, maybe a remnant from my days of being an elementary school teacher.

Hi Ruth, I've tried to leave comments on your blog a few times but blogger is being pesky and not letting me through...sigh...anyway...nice to meet you...I used to live in the Chicago area but now live, as you may have noticed, in the sunny SW.

Wanted to say that recently my husband experienced a five year hiatus with work - yup - no money earned in five years. It was awful. And I really doubted God and everything. But now a lot is much better. So I hope that soon (not as long as for me) things are better for you too. Financial woes are really hard on us.

Hi Ruth, I LOVE your socks, and I'm addicted to color, too. I wish I could knit like that, though. I haven't been able to stick with it enough....

anyway, instead of a meme, I think I'll try to find a creative way to highlight some of the newer bloggers on my list. I'll let you know when I've done it.

Hey Ruth, we are SISTERS for color. I collect color. Paints, inks, papers, fabric, paint chips, pencils, thread, pens, glass. My favorite obsession is to SORT color. And I am crazy for colorful socks. If you email me your address maybe I can find something colorful to send you. :-) I'm gonna have to learn to knit. I can do it, but I can't cast off, and then, only squares.
