My sweet boy gave us a scare yesterday. He was fine in the morning, but by lunchtime, he was completely lethargic--uninterested in going for his mid-day walk or even looking at his toys. We spent a couple of hours at the vet's yesterday afternoon. She took his temperature (which was normal) and did bloodwork, but couldn't find anything wrong except that he was reluctant to put weight on his right hind leg. She thought maybe it was a sprained knee but wasn't sure. She gave us pain pills and told us to come back today if he doesn't improve.
Well, even though we gave him a pill at 5:00 last night, he remained very apathetic. We did notice that his hip seemed tender, so now we suspect he might have sprained it, not his knee. He was very restless all night because he couldn't find a position that was comfortable. Fortunately, in spite of that, when we got up this morning, he was more himself again. He took a short walk without plopping down and giving up. But he's having a hard time defecating because he has to balance on his rear legs. We'll call the animal hospital and see if we need to go back for an X-ray or if we should just give him a chance to heal by giving him pain pills and taking it easy.
No parable about my boy today. Just a worried dog mama.
