Chicago Botanic Garden, Part II

More photos from the outing I posted about yesterday.

This mallard was swimming really fast. I'm amazed the photo turned out this good. The one of his wife was a total blur.

This is a rare but precious specimen that only graces the Botanic Garden on occasion.

This photo and the two below are taken at my favorite spot in the entire 375-acre facility--the walled English gardens.

This water lily was in a cee-ment pond, as Ellie Mae Clampett would say. It was growing near the visitor's center.

If you're ever in the Chicagoland area during the growing season, I really recommend going to the Chicago Botanic Garden. It's in the suburb of Highland Park, about 20 miles north of the city.

Great photos. I especially loved the one you took of your husband. A rare specimen? You should frame it.

More great shots!! I had to laugh at the cutline under the pic of Michael. You are truly in love, I can tell!!

I have Chicago Botanical Garden on my list. :)

Ruth, I would love to visit that. It's just peaceful seeing that with your few pics! We're going to do our own garden makeover, going native for the most part and 'water wise' (since xeriscaping is a scary word if you live outside of AZ [g]).. this morning I had to get some kelp for my garden and I HAD to stay away from one side of the nursery where they have all the veggies..I simply cannot do it this fall on account of our backyard makeover..

looove gardening. But then, I'm into permaculture and that encompasses a bit more than just 'gardening'..
great pics and indeedy..great find on that special 'ehem' specimen! [winkwink]

Ahhh... a veiw of the ultra-rare Employedium Writercus. Great shot even though if it's not in their natural habitat of empty scotch bottles and overflowing ashtrays.

*wink*

Perhaps the lady duck was not Mr. Mallard's wife. Perhaps she thought you were a private investigator gathering evidence to use against her in court, which was why she was a blur.

I'm looking for a photo of the wife of the "precious specimen." Was she also moving fast...a blur? No, I suspect she's the prime photographer of the family, as is the case in my family too.

Wow, such great photos! And _loved_ the caption of "rare and precious" under the photo of Michael! I read that to my husband and we both grinned. Thanks!

Looks like a wonderful place to spend an afternoon in! Yes....so glad you were able to catch a shot of that rare specimen! That wooden bench under the round window opening looks interesting, too, with its scooped backrest around the window. Cool!

I liked the photo of your husband and what you said about him...so sweet! There's a good possibility of my family needing to travel to Chicago next year- I'll add these gardens to what I want to see, along with the American Girl place of course. ;)

It would be nice to have a nice quiet place like that to relax and unwind at the end of the day wouldn't it? I love the lilies in the cee-ment pond.

I love that fountain - I have always wanted one mounted to a wall like that. So Secret Garden.

you caught the essence of the stillness and peacefulness of a botanical garden. I probably will never get to see it, but thanks to your photo tour, I feel like I've visited.

My daughter has been wanting to go back to Chicago again for the last year or two. For as many times as we've been there, I'm embarrassed to say we have not gone to the gardens. Next time, we'll be sure to go!
Thanks for sharing your pictures with us.
