If you build it, they will come . . .

Michael and I don't take the local paper, so I tend to be a little slow hearing about what's happening around town. (We take a Chicago paper, not the suburban one.)

So even though this was announced in February, I didn't find out until Saturday that something really exciting is happening in my town. Kevin Costner is starting up a new minor league baseball team, here in Zion. A new stadium is being built about two miles from my house. The team will be called the Lake County Fielders.

Check out this cool logo.

Michael and I have been baseball fans since childhood (we bleed Cubby blue), but it's a long schlep down to Chicago, and prices are so high (parking, tickets, food). Now, starting next summer, we can go hang out at a ballgame without taking out a second mortgage or giving up a whole day for the outing.

Not to mention what an economic boost this will be for our town!

I've never been that fond of Kevin Costner. Suddenly, he's moved way up on my list of cool actors. LOL

I love baseball! usually I only watch the World Series, tho. I like to go to minor league games, because more happens. There are plenty of opportunities here for major and minor since everyone and their cat wants to have spring training here! Congrats on the access. (I got my love of the game from my grandma and dad. She loved the Cincinnati Reds; he had a baseball card shop).

I love Kevin Costner, and although not a baseball fan myself, I did love the movie, "Field of Dreams." What a cool thing he is doing.

I hope you get some pictures of him.

Your new self-portrait is great. I love seeing the progress and different renditions of you.

Ditto Sherry Peyton.

Very glad you have this local fun. And hopefully you won't have to sit next to Kevin Costner.

He built it, so you will come? :)

That sounds great! I'm not a huge baseball fan (never watch it on t.v) but I love the atmosphere of ball parks.

I love baseball and Kevin Costner!! It is always nice when they take what they've earned and do something really good with it. Two miles from the ball field...woot!!

That's cool! If I lived in the area I would definitely go to the games! Kevin Costner has a casino in Deadwood, SD too -- not far from where some of my relatives live. He does a good job on his projects.

After a brief period of drooling, I've never been that fond of Kevin Costner either, but good for him! You get to go to local games and the economy picks up. Yay!

I love the old-fashioned look to the logo, too. :)

"Cool" is not usually a part of my vocabulary, but this is very cool.

Field of Dreams was on CMT last night. I know it almost by heart. My favorite line: "Wanna take it outside, Bertha, you great big Nazi cow?" For more of the movie's dialogue, as well as some insights into my psyche, see Chapter 27 of Billy Ray Barnwell Here.

Maybe Zion, Illinois, is the place where dreams come true.

For a look at what minor league baseball is like, watch another Kevin Costner movie, Bull Durham....

Oh! What fun! - Fingers crossed they'll do it right and have baseball with out the corporate garbage - Nothing like watching baseball in a community setting and not feeling like a sucker for paying too much for the ticket.
