This is what I've been working on for my colored-pencil class. It's still not done. The orb and plant are on top of a brick pillar. I won't show much of that--just one row of bricks and the top concrete slab. But I couldn't wait to post what I've been doing.
So far, it's taken about 16 hours of work. (As usual, clicking on it makes it bigger and shows detail.)

Oh my goodness Ruth -- this is amazing! You go girl!
one word says it all: WOW!!!!!! Go talented one.
You are doing so well with your drawing. The detail in this is wonderful!!!
That is so beautiful! At first, I thought it was a photograph.
Damn! That's Really Good Ruth!
Wow....the detail is amazing.....colored pencil....really?
Really. :-)
That is just fabulous! I so love this.
You are Ms. Leaps and Bounds, no doubt.
I really like this drawing, Ruth!
You have such patience to so lovingly gaze and sketch and gaze and sketch. I love the result, but I don't think I could ever do it. However, inspired by your example, I just might dust off the piano.
I love those leaves and the shadows are wonderful. It must feel good to see the fruits of your labor.
Those leaves and shadows are wonderful. Well done.
This is beautiful, Ruth. I'm so glad you're rediscovering this part of your many talents.
Ah! Breathtaking!
Ruth, I am seriously impressed. YOu have progressed so far so fast. It's just amazing how good you really are. I can but imagine what your work will look like in another month!
How do you find time for ALL your gifts???
You are awesome!
I love the way you've done the orb! Fab!
Amazing. You should send it to tim lowly..he is the art director at North Park College ( you recall his wife and he ?)..
Your work has some of his realism style, with your own ample skill and gifts..

Ruth, your drawings -- from the earlier ones to this one -- have always managed to show wonderful depth. I like the way you've been able to show the softness of these leaves. BTW, I just finished To The Hilt and loved it. I like the basic Dick Francis hero who is usually a decent guy who, because he's a genuine decent guy, is able to handle difficult unfamiliar territory. Thanks for the recommendation!
WOW!!!!
That is amazingly beautiful. WOW!
