Monday Evening Update

Hello, all.

I still don't have my computer back. I think it's supposed to be fixed tomorrow . . . but something is wrong with our car, so that has to go in for repairs tomorrow. Which means I might not get my laptop back until Wednesday. I miss it. A lot. (I am now typing on my husband's very old iMac. It's slow. I don't like it. I'm spoiled.)

Let's see. What else is going on. I have good news on the job front, for me at least. I have work lined up for the next 12 months! I have two half time jobs from now to the end of the year and then full-time work roughly until October (with the possibility of part-time stuff tucked around the edges). Michael is busy for the next month, and there are possibilities beyond that. So at least our economic situation feels less desperate. This is a good thing considering that we have two large and unexpected repair bills looming. But as my brother pointed out to me, at least this means we have a car and computer to start with.

I wrote a fun article yesterday about why the Chicago River runs backwards. At least, . . . I had fun with it. I'm not sure how my new busyness is going to affect the Suite101 plan. I still hope to do one article minimum a week, but we'll see.

Anyway, that's the news in my world. Hope you are all well.

Ruth

Was thinking about you this morning, wondering how things were going. Good to hear the news on the job front. Sorry about the computer--I understand what you mean about being spoiled! I think I missed the entry about Suite101; I'll go back.

Always good to read you!

Hi Ruth,
Sorry to hear about the car and computer problems, but that's great news about the jobs!

Congrats on the jobs. I read the article. Very interesting. Strange to think that garbage is dumped into rivers, oceans, etc. It happened back then and still happens today. Does Suite 101 tell you what to write?

Good news, indeed, Ruth. Glad to hear you will have a little less anxiety on the job front. As for the other repairs, I do wish the best for you. We've become so dependent on our computers, haven't we?

Great news! Dave Barry inspired me yesterday. Told me that if I just keep on writing and submitting, I'll get to be a writer too. OK, he told my son's school this in the Fellowship Hall, but he coulda been talking to me!!

Anyway, very happy for your good working news. That means you can really get drawing now, no worries!

Hurrah for 12 months of work – that's so awesome. And hey, at least the car and computer are repairs... not replacements, right? I'll have to check out your Suite 101 article and share it with my daughter. We love Chicago and have both been hoping to get back there soon.
